Extreme close-up capabilities
The 17-28mm focuses from a very close range. The minimum focus distance is 19cm in the ultra-wide angle position (the same as the 28-75mm) and the maximum magnification equals 1:5.2. In the 28mm telephoto mode, maximum magnification equals 1:6 while the minimum focus distance is still only 26cm. This remarkable achievement allows you to create compositions that emphasise perspective and are unique to wide-angle lenses.
Excellent high-resolution performance
The optical design of the 17-28mm zoom consists of 13 lenses in 11 groups, including three aspherical lens elements, two LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements, and an XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens element with properties resembling those of fluorite. Together, they efficiently suppress chromatic aberration and other abnormalities.
