Description
The Tamron 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD has been awarded the EISA Award for Best Product 2019/2020. The lens has a fixed large lens opening of F/2.8 over the entire zoom range, and delivers high resolution plus edge-to-edge contrast. The combination of ultra-wide angle focal length, brightness with the fixed F/2.8 and a minimum focus distance of just 19cm in the ultra wide angle position, stimulates expressive and creative photography in a multitude of scenarios. With this 17-28mm, the zoom system is powered by the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive), a stepping motor delivering fast, highly accurate and extremely quiet drive, making the lens ideal for making virtually noise-free video and photo shots. In addition, this new zoom lens features a moisture-resistant construction and a hydrophobic fluorine lens coating that repels fingerprints and dirt. In addition, the Tamron 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD (Model A046) is fully compatible with various Sony camera-specific features, including 'Fast Hybrid AF' and 'Eye AF'. High performance, combined with exceptional portability, make this Tamron 17-28mm ideal for everyday use.
Complementary lens for the popular Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD
The Tamron 17-28mm zoom, which shares the same development concept as the highly popular Tamron 28-75mm, was designed with the highest priority for delivering high optical performance in a form factor that is light and compact. Tamron design engineers have achieved an unparalleled small size (99mm) and minimal weight (420g) for a zoom range of 17-28mm. The total length doesn't change when zooming or focusing, creating a stable, well-balanced operation and excellent portability. In addition, the Tamron 17-28mm has a filter size of just 67mm, which is very small for an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens. This new lens has the same filter size as the Tamron 28-75mm, so the same lens caps and filters can be used.
Extreme close-up capabilities
The 17-28mm focuses from a very close range. The minimum focus distance is 19cm in the ultra-wide angle position (the same as the 28-75mm) and the maximum magnification equals 1:5.2. In the 28mm telephoto mode, maximum magnification equals 1:6 while the minimum focus distance is still only 26cm. This remarkable achievement allows you to create compositions that emphasise perspective and are unique to wide-angle lenses.
Excellent high-resolution performance
The optical design of the 17-28mm zoom consists of 13 lenses in 11 groups, including three aspherical lens elements, two LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements, and an XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens element with properties resembling those of fluorite. Together, they efficiently suppress chromatic aberration and other abnormalities. In addition, Tamron's legendary BBAR (Broad-Brand Anti-Reflection) Coating effectively reduces shadows and light spots. By using camera features*, this lens delivers excellent optical performance, edge-to-edge across the entire zoom range that matches the latest high resolution image sensors. The combination of its compact size and minimal weight, plus performance, allows users to capture a wide variety of genres, including landscapes, architecture and casual snapshot photography.
The RXD stepping motor is exceptionally quiet.
The AF drive system contains a sensor that accurately detects the position of the lens, while the RXD motor unit provides optimised AF control. This achieves a very fast and accurate autofocus operation, allowing you to stay focused on constantly moving subjects or while making videos. Its extremely quiet operation is an important advantage during video recording. In addition, the compact configuration of the RXD AF drive system contributes to an unprecedented size and weight reduction of this lightweight ultra-wide-angle lens.
Moisture-resistant construction and fluorine lens coating.
Moisture and dirt-resistant seals are located around the bayonet mount and in other critical locations to prevent moisture and/or raindrop ingress, and to enable moisture-repellent construction. This feature provides additional protection when shooting outdoors in adverse weather conditions. In addition, the front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that boasts excellent water and oil repellent properties. The lens surface is easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the harmful effects of dirt, moisture or oily fingerprints, thus simplifying maintenance.
