With the RICOH GR IV Monochrome, Ricoh heralds a new era for lovers of black-and-white photography. This is the first model in the high-quality GR series that has been designed entirely for monochrome imaging. Based on the RICOH GR IV (launched in September 2025), this special edition combines a dedicated monochrome CMOS sensor with advanced image processing and Image Control settings exclusively tailored to black-and-white photography. The result: images with unprecedented depth, tonality and expression.
A rich history, a new direction
For nearly 30 years, the GR series has been synonymous with uncompromising image quality, quick response and ultimate portability. Since the introduction of the legendary RICOH GR1 film camera in 1996 and the GR DIGITAL in 2005, the series has continuously evolved while retaining its core values. With the GR IV Monochrome, Ricoh not only celebrates this rich history, but also takes a bold step towards photographers who consciously choose the power of black and white.
Monochrome sensor for maximum image quality
At the heart of the RICOH GR IV Monochrome is an APS-C format monochrome CMOS sensor (23.3 × 15.5 mm) with approximately 25.7 megapixels of effective resolution. Because the sensor does not use a colour filter array, each pixel is fully utilised for light registration. This results in higher sharpness, more detail, less noise and an exceptional dynamic range, even at high ISO values up to ISO 409,600.
The fixed 18.3mm F2.8 GR lens (28mm full-frame equivalent) is renowned for its excellent sharpness and minimal distortion. The optical construction with 7 elements in 5 groups, including 3 aspherical lens elements, delivers razor-sharp images from corner to corner, ideal for street photography, reportage and black-and-white landscapes, for example.
Advanced image control for black-and-white expression
The Image Control settings have been further refined especially for this Monochrome version. Photographers can choose from Standard, Hi-Contrast, Grainy, HDR Tone and multiple Custom profiles, among others. Parameters such as contrast (highlights and shadows), brightness, clarity, toning and grain structure can be precisely adjusted, allowing each photographer to create their own black-and-white signature directly in the camera.
Fast, stable and intuitive
Thanks to 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilisation (SR), hybrid autofocus (phase and contrast detection) and the renowned Snap Focus function, the GR IV Monochrome is always ready to capture the decisive moment. Its compact body, bright 3.0-inch touchscreen and lightning-fast operation make this camera ideal for everyday use.
Compact, powerful and connected
Despite its professional capabilities, the GR IV Monochrome remains true to the compact GR DNA. With approximately 53 GB of internal storage, support for microSD cards, USB-C with DisplayPort output and fast Wi-Fi (2.4 / 5 / 5.8 GHz), the camera is fully prepared for modern workflows.
Thanks to its uncompromising focus on black-and-white photography, this camera is the choice for photographers who want maximum creativity and image quality.
