Lensbaby represents endless creativity. It presents a great challenge if you want to capture exceptional images. Images that people will talk about.
Lensbaby is actually a brand that offers creative effect lenses, optics and accessories. These can be combined with each other thanks to the "Optic Swab System". One of the characteristic features of this system is the deliberate shift of the depth of field. This gives your images dreamy effects and buttery soft bokeh.
Origin of Lensbaby
Professional photographer Craig Strong was fed up of normal lenses. Especially with the sharpness and depth of field they work with. He wanted to make images that were not possible with ordinary lenses. So he started experimenting.
Craig placed an old Speed Graphic lens on a short vacuum cleaner hose. This gave the effect he was looking for. A new way of seeing. Something he wanted to share with other photographers. That's why he founded Lensbaby in 2004.
It is actually quite simple. You combine a lens with an optic and thus shift the field of focus (sweet spot) of your composition. Because these are all separate parts, you can easily change them. This way you can easily change the creative effect and focal length.
Unlike a regular lens, the focal area of a Lensbaby is small and curved / circular. This is also called the sweet spot. Everything around it is surrounded by blur, or bokeh. The size of the sweet spot or the width of the blur is determined by the aperture. The effect is strongest with a large aperture. You have a smaller sweet spot and less depth of field. With a smaller aperture, the effect is more like that of a regular lens. The sweet spot is larger, so you have more depth of field.
