Description
H&Y K-Series ND16 + circular polariser HD MRC 95mm drop-in holder filter
The H&Y K-Series ND16 + circular polariser HD MRC 95mm drop-in holder filter combines a solid neutral density with a circular polarisation effect. It is specially made to fit between a separately available H&Y Filters 100mm K-Series filter holder and one of the filter holder's adapter rings. The optical density of 1.2 obscures the entire image, allowing you to shoot with a larger aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing the exposure time, you can create images with motion blur or by opening your aperture for a shallow depth of field.
At the same time, this filter can reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarised by reflection off a non-metallic surface. Light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarised by the reflection of electrons in air molecules, scattering the light into what looks like haze. A polarisation filter arranges and filters this directionally polarised light perpendicular to the reflected light, absorbing much of it. This results in a noticeable reduction in glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and increased saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polariser differs from a linear polariser only in that it contains a quarter-wave plane in addition to the linear polarisation filter. The addition of this quarter-wave plane serves to circularise the linearly polarised light for use with autofocus and exposure functions. Because of the way light is refracted and filtered with a linear polariser, autofocus and exposure accuracy are distorted during use. When the light is circularly polarised, these functions can be used.
The drop-in K-series Neutral Density 1.2 and circular polariser filters are made of Schott B270 glass for increased optical clarity and colour fidelity. They are mounted in a serrated aluminium alloy filter ring with an external dial, allowing the filter to rotate independently to adjust the intensity of the polarisation effect. There are eight layers of anti-reflection coating on each side of this filter to prevent internal ghosting and reflections. In addition, the filter features an anti-smear nano-coating for an enhanced pearl effect on contact with water or oil, for more efficient cleaning.
