What is an LED / continuous lamp?
A studio LED / continuous lamp is a lamp made up of light-emitting diodes for use in a photo studio or on a film set. LED lights are small in size and energy-efficient, making them a perfect addition for extra lighting when taking a photo or recording video footage. Their application in professional photography and film has grown considerably in recent years due to their range of colour temperatures and their versatility. As a result, many brands are active in the lamp market, including Nanlite, Jinbei and Godox.
Perfect light quality
Nothing is more important than providing the correct lighting when working in a studio or film set. A big advantage is to use one or more LED lamps in these situations. There are models that can be mounted directly onto your camera, as well as light panels that can be placed with a stand. The lamps usually have hundreds of LED lights that evenly illuminate the entire room. The brightness of these lamps and the visible results on an LCD screen make this type ideal for perfectly adjusting the light quality to the subject.
Changing colour temperature
A great advantage of the use of LED light during filming and photography is the colour temperature, which can often be set. This is indicated in Kelvin and covers a range between 2700K and 8000K. The colour temperature is a decisive factor in the representation of the different colours in your design. With an LED lamp, you can usually choose a value between 3000 and 6000. The lower values give a warm white light, which is especially good for simulating evening light. A value around 5500K is suitable for daylight. Therefore, by switching between colour temperatures, day and night can both be simulated in photography or film.
Long lifespan
An often-mentioned advantage of LED lighting is the long lifespan of the lights. Because they emit hardly any heat, they can easily burn 30,000 hours, making an LED lamp very suitable to last for years. This increases the durability and means that the costs of these lamps are recouped over time.
Additional options
In addition to models that can be mounted directly onto cameras, large LED panels are also available. It is useful to purchase a lamp stand for stability and adjustability. In addition, it is advisable to check whether the amount of light is properly adjusted to the room using a light meter.
