Canon's EF 50 mm F/1.8 is a prime lens in a classic design with improvements to the AF system and physical design. This makes the lens smaller and faster. It uses an STM stepper motor. Due to the fast and smooth operation of this stepper motor, this lens is ideal for both photo and video recordings. The STM motor also supports Movie Servo AF mode on select SLRs for precise and quiet focusing.
