Blu-ray player
Blu-Ray players are the spider in the web for many home theatres. Almost all discs can be played on it and most new players are also suitable for transmitting the most diverse media files from, among other things, tablet or smartphone wirelessly to TV and amplifier.
High image quality
Above all, Blu-ray players are of course made to play the superior Blu-Ray discs, transmitting the signal to amplifiers or (AV) receivers and LED TVs in the living room. An important difference between Blu-ray and DVD discs is in the much higher (5x) capacity: With 25 GB it is possible to display 2 hours of film in Full HD and/or 3D.
Some players from a.o. Panasonic already works with 4K images, others can scale up to 4K from Full HD. In addition to 3D playback, converting 2D movies to 3D is also often possible.
Many extras
Blu-Ray also often offers interesting extras such as (interactive) background information. These specials can be embedded on the Blu-ray disc or, depending on the player's options, also load from the web, cableless or via Ethernet. From dedicated websites – provided disc and player support BD live – fantastic additional material can be loaded, such as previews, interviews with actors or other extras.
Multifunctional
The connection with the Internet gives many more possibilities: for example, many players from Samsung, Panasonic and LG, among others, can add nice Smart TV functionalities to home theatres. That makes every connected LED TV a comfortable platform for internet shopping, loading movies and games, email and Social Media traffic – with a connected webcam – to even video calling.
Use smartphone or tablet
To add extra comfort to these extra features, it is also possible to use (usually) free apps to use smartphone or tablet as a control, which makes web surfing in particular much easier. Via the built-in Wi-Fi, holiday photos, video clips or audio selections can also be displayed wirelessly to HiFi systems and LED TV from smartphones or tablets.
Also play audio
Some players from a.o. Denon and Marantz are, in addition to Blu-Ray and DVD, also suitable for playing (old) CDs, and sometimes SACDs. Without additional equipment, this offers the opportunity to present not only old CDs but also the best quality Super Audio in the home theatre. For example, for the improvement of MP3 sound files, some Sony players have integrated innovative scale-up technology just like for images.
