The Voigtländer Portrait Heliar F/1.8 75 mm (Sony E-mount) in black uses spherical aberration with its built-in control ring and is designed to maximise photographic creativity when used with full-frame Sony E-mount Cameras. The medium telephoto prime lens has a fast nine-blade aperture with a versatile aperture range of f/1.8 to f/11, a minimum focusing distance of 70cm and Sony E electronic contacts for transferring Exif data to a connected Camera.
In combination with the aperture ring, the aberration ring corrects spherical aberration, affecting the overall sharpness of the image and enabling a wide range of bokeh expressions. When overcorrected, the lens produces an image with a sharpness point and bokeh with a distinct, bubble-like shape. When undercorrected, the focus point is softer and exhibits light blotches in the highlights, while bokeh is rendered softer. To maintain focus position during shifting aberration, the Portrait Heliar 75mm has a built-in mechanism that compensates for misalignment by changing the distance between the three lens groups in conjunction with aberration control.
