The Tascam Portacapture X8 is a high resolution, portable 6+2 track PCM recorder with simple app-based touchscreen control and UBS audio interface.

The Portacapture has a 3.5" colour touchscreen display. This allows you to easily select the best audio settings for your application. The presets give you more time to focus on the shot without having to re-adjust the settings. This works via 6 apps that can be operated on the screen. You can set everything yourself via manual if you wish. 

It is possible to choose from six different recordings: manual, voice, podcast, music, field and ASMR. 

• Manual: This is the main app for multi-track recording with up to six audio sources and a stereo mix.
• Voice: This recording app is ideal for recording interviews, dictations and meetings.
• Podcast: Use this app to create podcasts with up to four people.
• Music: Choose this app for recording instrumentals and vocals.
• Field: Ideal for recording nature sounds outdoors.
• ASMR: This recording app creates a visual effect on the screen in response to the input signal.

The Portacapture X8 has a preset level setting that allows a wide dynamic range to be achieved. It uses high-performance dual A/D converters and recording technology with 32-bit floating-point resolution. The result is the highest sound quality, even with low-level recordings. If you process the audio data later, you can increase the level without deteriorating the signal-to-noise ratio. In addition, the internal normalization function can automatically adjust the level of the stereo mix after recording.

Thanks to the driverless plug-and-go functionality, the Portacapture X8 is suitable as a compact mixer with built-in microphones for live-streaming via OBS or similar platforms. You can also record video commentary and dialogue directly into DAW and editing software.

The Portacapture X8 streams up to eight tracks (six inputs plus stereo mix) via USB.Choose which inputs are recorded on which tracks. The unit supports the power supply standard via USB Type-C and can simultaneously supply phantom power to an external microphone via USB. For video or audio conferencing, you can use the Portacapture X8 as a USB stereo microphone and record the sound simultaneously.  

The Portacapture X8 comes with two high-quality condenser microphones, each with a diameter of 14.6 mm. Since they are detachable, both microphones can be attached to the unit in AB or XY configuration.
- AB setup: Ideal for achieving a wide stereo field.
- XY arrangement: Provides extra brightness with reduced phase shift between the two channels.
Combined with the dual A/D converter, 32-bit floating point processing and sampling rates up to 192 kHz, these microphones capture everything from the softest rustle to the loudest spectacle.

With the optional AK-BT1 Bluetooth adapter and the Portacapture Control App, the Portacapture X8 can be controlled remotely from mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets (iPad and Android devices). The app is available for free in the Apple Store or Google Play. Thus, you can for instance record nature sounds in nature without influencing the result with your own immediate presence.
