Sony RM-DP7 Remote Control Monitor
The Sony RM-DP7 is a Remote Control Monitor that brings camera control and image assessment together in one device. On the spacious 7-inch Full HD touchscreen (1920 x 1080 pixels) you operate compatible cameras from the Sony Cinema Line directly: you control focus, zoom and the most important recording settings without touching the camera itself. This lets you work faster and keep your attention on the composition. At launch, the RM-DP7 is compatible with the FX5, FX3A, FX2 and FX30.
Colour is where the RM-DP7 sets itself apart. Each unit is individually calibrated and tuned by Sony, based on years of experience with professional Remote Control Monitors. This results in an extremely accurate colour reproduction, with particular attention to the midtones in which skin tones and subtle colour transitions become visible. As a result, you assess the desired look with confidence right on set, instead of only afterwards in the edit.
The large screen achieves a brightness of up to 2,000 cd/m², so you keep a clear view of your image even outdoors in bright daylight. For precise assessment you use the professional monitoring tools. With the LUT preview you see, while filming in LOG, exactly how your footage will look after the grade. The waveform shows the distribution of the exposure, false colour makes over- and underexposure visible at a glance, zebra marks the brightest parts of the image and peaking helps you assess sharpness.
Focusing is precise and intuitive. With the physical control dial you focus manually, while the focus indicator at the edge of the screen shows where the focus point lies. You switch seamlessly between manual focus and camera-based autofocus, so you stay in control even with moving subjects. The two supplied unmarked focus rings are easily made to fit your own way of working.
For connecting to your camera you have plenty of choice: besides HDMI, the RM-DP7 features 12G-SDI inputs and outputs, USB-C and gigabit ethernet, which makes it suitable for professional cabled workflows. The power supply is flexible: you attach Sony BP-U batteries such as the BP-U35 and BP-U70 directly to the back and swap them thanks to the hot-swap function without switching off the monitor. Power via USB-C Power Delivery or DC input is also among the options. If you want to work wirelessly, you pair a compatible third-party transmitter for a low-latency connection, up to 4K.
The RM-DP7 is built for demanding productions. The robust aluminium housing is sturdy, and with four 1/4" threaded connections all around and attachment eyelets for a carrying strap, you easily integrate it into any rig or set-up. With its spacious 7-inch screen and complete SDI equipment, this is the largest model in the line, ideal for those who want maximum overview on set.
