Description
The Leica Summaron-M 28mm F5.6 Chrome Finish has its origins in the classic compact design of its predecessor and brings the unique analog look and feel of the photograph to the modern era of digital photography. The optical design and the mechanical structure of the Summaron-M 28mm F5.6 are identical to those of its predecessor, which was produced in the factory Leitz in Wetzlar until 1963. The perfect combination of the latest optical developments, the highest quality finishes, and optical design to show that this new version of the Summaron-M 28mm is much more than a simple reconstruction of an existing lens.
The exceptionally short length of less than two centimeters makes it particularly unobtrusive and therefore, together with the incomparable discretion of a Leica M camera, an ideal lens for street photography and reportage. The combination of a clear depth of field scale and long focus stroke makes a very precise focusing possible.
Features of the Leica Summaron-M 28mm F5.6 Chrome Finish

Optical design
The optical design of 6 lens elements in 4 groups, symmetrically grouped around the iris of the new Leica Summaron-M 28mm F5.6, is identical to that of its ancestor. The historic optical design of the original lens has remained completely unchanged. The combination of extreme depth, natural contrast reproduction, excellent detail resolution, and visible vignetting create a unique visual signature and give photos a distinctive look reminiscent of the early days of analog photography.
Modern look
The appearance of the new Leica Summaron-M 28mm F5.6 is attuned to the contemporary look of the current range of Leica M lenses. This applies to the Leica M bayonet mount with 6-bit coding, the shape of the focus locking button, the diameter of the aperture ring and the style of the serration on the housing and focus rings. The style and construction of the hood reflect the original and reminds you of the beginning of rangefinder photography. The lens is made of solid brass and finished in an extensive manufacturing process.
