A flash of Profoto history

Profoto was founded in 1968 in Stockholm by photographer and engineer Eckhard Heine and photo retailer Conny Dufgran. Their partnership began when Conny sold a flash to Eckhard that didn’t work. Eckhard was so frustrated by the faulty unit that he went home and invented a new type of flash. A few weeks later he returned to Conny and showed him the impressive new flash. A few years on, they stood at Photokina in Cologne with their Pro-1 generator. It was a huge success and Profoto was born with a bang.
