The Canon RF 85mm F/1.2 L USM DS is a unique prime lens designed with bokeh as a priority. The advanced optical design of this short telephoto lens incorporates an exceptionally large maximum aperture. This version distinguishes itself from Canon's other RF 85 mm F/1.2 lens and has a Defocus Smoothing coating. This coating helps soften and smooth bokeh quality when working with large-aperture settings. This makes the RF 85mm F/1.2 L USM DS particularly suitable for use with shallow depth of field.
In addition to the bokeh optimized design, the optical layout of this lens includes a Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics element; a specially developed element that virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations and colour edges for remarkable clarity and colour accuracy. In addition, an ultra-low dispersion element and an aspherical element are also used to further control various aberrations and distortions for great sharpness and resolution. Individual elements also feature an Air Sphere Coating to suppress flare and bypass images for high contrast and color fidelity when working in bright and backlight conditions.
In addition to imaging capabilities, a suitable ring-type Ultrasonic Motor provides fast, near-silent autofocus and full-time manual focus. A unique control ring is also integrated into the lens design for intuitive control over the exposure settings of the lens itself.
