Camera Flash units (Use external flash units to keep full control of your lighting conditions): With an external camera flash unit you can illuminate your subject in a different way than with the built-in flash of your camera. With an external flash unit  "red eyes " are past. There are generally three different types of external camera flash units:

  • Hammerhead Flash unit
  • Dedicated flash unit
  • Ringlight flash unit

Hammerhead flash units
The hammerhead flash units are used throughout (professional) photography. This flash unit can be attached next to the camera and is often equipped with a swivel head, so you can direct the flash light. The advantage is that you can lighten your subject indirectly and through reflections, as a result unwanted shadows on the walls behind you, are past time.

Dedicated flash units
Dedicated flash units can be placed on top of your camera and often contains a swivel head. With this flash unit it is possible to illuminate your subject indirectly. Advanced models take into account your chosen focal length and adjust the flash output accordingly, while maintaining TTL metering values.

Ringlight flash units
Ringlight Flash units are designed for macro photography. Ringlight flash units mount on the front of your lens and form a ring around your lens. This creates a nice and soft lighting effect of your subject. Ringlight flash units are, nowadays, also widely used in portrait photography.
